May Crowning

Our annual May Crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary will occur on Mother's Day, May 11 (Pentecost Sunday), at the 11:00 am Mass.  If you know of any children who would like to participate in the floral procession during that Mass, please contact the Rectory.

Second Collection

This weekend, we will have a Second Collection for the Peter's Pence Collection, which was formally instituted by Blessed Pope Pius IX.  Contributions to this will enable the Supreme Pontiff, Benedict XVI, to continue his immense works of charity throughout the world.

Pontifical Mass

The Most Reverend Alfred C. Hughes, Archbishop of New Orleans, will celebrate a Pontifical Mass here on Saturday, May 24, at 4:oo pm, the Vigil of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi).  All parishioners are asked to attend.

Feast of Corpus Christi Procession

The Archdiocese of New Orleans will lead its 3rd Annual Corpus Christi Procession on Sunday, May 25.  Holy Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church (130 Baronne St.) at 4:00 pm, followed by a Eucharistic Procession to St. Louis Cathedral, starting at 5:00 pm.  Holy Hour at St. Louis Cathedral will follow at 6:00 pm.  Archbishop Alfred Hughes will be the celebrant.

Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary of Good Counsel invites all to participate in their Front-Porch Rosary.  During the month of May, the recitation of the Dominican Rosary will take place every Friday, at 5:00 pm, on the porch of our Rectory.

Friends of Good Counsel

The new organization, the Friends of Good Counsel, is creating a parish cook-book.  Anyone interested in participating  and would like further information, please telephone Mrs. Rosary Henry, at 837-2605.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Painting

Our beautiful painting of Our Lady of Good Counsel (which was touched to the miraculous original, now found in Italy, and blessed by Pope Pius XI) is being restored by the Hudson-Salah Conservation Studio, on Dryades Street.  The process will take several months, and we will soon have a large reproduction temporarily hanging in its place.

Archdiocesan Golden Wedding Anniversary

The Archdiocesan Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration will take place on Sunday, June 29 at 3:00 pm, at St. Philip Neri Church, in Metairie.  It will indeed not be a Mass, but a Prayer Service.  To register before the deadline of March 28, please contact our Rectory Office at 891-1906.

The Proper Way to Receive The Body of Christ

The current liturgy allows for Communion in the Body of Christ either in the hand or on the tongue.  When you approach, approach with reverence.  To receive the Body of Christ by hand, you should nod your head, extend your hands making your left hand a throne for your right hand, since the latter is to receive the King.  The minister will say, "the Body of Christ."  Your response is "AMEN" thus receiving in the hollow of your hand.  Next, carefully sanctify your eyes through contact with the Sacred Body; then respectively consume it in your mouth before leaving the altar.

Meetings & Organizations

Neo-Catechumenal Way meets every Wednesday for Word Service and Saturday for Celebration of the Eucharist at 7:00 pm in the Chapel.

Bible Study will be held each Thursday in the rectory Chapel beginning at 7:30 pm.  All are invited to attend.

The Legion of Mary meets every Sunday morning at 10:00 am in the Rectory Chapel.

The Legion of Mary meets for their Front-Porch Rosary every Friday at 5:00 pm.

When you come to serve, please sign in the book located on the table in the back of church.  This will help us know before mass begins that we have the correct number of ministers to serve.
